Letters have fascinated me since childhood. Drawing them, collecting them as objects, seeing and photographing them as I discovered them hidden as doors handles, buildings, fashion, stairs, stones, branches …Lately, working with letters has moved on to a new level.
I am now attempting to deal with letters as an expression of our dual identity as people in this day and age.The obvious use of capital letters is as a sign of identification. Names, gender, organizations, logos, ideologies, all use letters as a means of representation. The world we live
in is characterized by functional, clean cut, transparent forms in which materials such as glass, plastic and Plexiglas are expected to convey clear and direct messages. What if, beyond the smooth, obvious, cold informative form, I could introduce an additional dimension of identity, one which would represent our passions, our dreams and experiences, our life?
The works I am currently displaying are the product of this search; an attempt to introduce life into an empty form, thus creating a personal path of communication between the artist and the viewer. Each of the pieces created are inspired by stories, memories of life experiences, hopes of people I have interacted with, places I have visited; a blend of the objective and the subjective, the professional and the personal.
While the exterior is a constant, the content of each letter has an infinity of variations limited only by our perception of who we are.The letters can be statues or Light objects.
The materials are Plexiglas, mixed media items, wood, Led lighting and a cable with a switch. The size of each piece may change and can be ordered according to the clients needs.
